At 11 o’clock today the whole Camp will be heading down to Sunny Sands beach in Folkestone, whatever the weather, to witness Steph Dungate’s Baptism. We will be joined by her parents and some of her friends for this very special occasion.
Steph is a new Christian, and having privately committed herself to follow Jesus, today she is declaring her faith, in front of her family & friends, and publicly through the act of Baptism.
Baptism is a dramatic act which symbolises:
- Being Born – in John 3:5-6 Jesus speaks of the need to be ‘born of water and the spirit’ in order to see the Kingdom of God. Baptism represents a spiritual birth.
- Being Washed – through His death on the cross, Jesus brings about a cleansing of sin and enables us to break free from its guilt and shame.
- Being Buried & Raised – it symbolises being buried in a grave, then raised to a new life (see Romans 6:3-4). Baptism marks the end of one life and the beginning of a new one.
- Being Immersed in the Holy Spirit – when Steph is baptised she will be fully immersed in the water, which represents the realm of the Holy Spirit. Being in the realm of the Spirit, we have new resources that enable us to live holy lives and to serve God.
