Advance Party

July 19th, 2011

Just a reminder that the Advance Party starts this Saturday (23rd July) and that most of the Staff & Asst. Staff will be leaving MK and heading to St. Ives. So if you have any questions, queries, comments, please make sure you get in touch during the first part of this week.

Why do we leave so early when the Campers aren’t arriving until late Tuesday? We load up the equipment onto a big lorry, pack ourselves into cars and minibuses and head to St. Ives to set-up Camp. We put up all the tents, organise the equipment, plumb in the running water, ensure that the cookers are working, purchase the food and supplies, organise the activities, check out the shower and toilet facilities, etc. It’s not quite as glamorous as the name suggests. There’s a lot to do, and much of it is hard work, although you wouldn’t believe it if you take a look at these Advance Party photos from Folkestone 2006.

Coolest Tents

July 14th, 2011

As you already know, at MK Summer Camp the Campers (aged 12-15) sleep in very traditional canvas tents. In the past Staff have tended to have big, heavy, box-like frame tents (more recently moving to dome tents), but a few years ago a group of female Assistant Staff broke the mould and brought along beautifully flower-patterned Cath Kidston mini dome tents. They added an element of colour and pizazz to the Camp site.

But I’m going to be brave and suggest that they’ve had their day, and that they’re now a little bit last decade. So what has come along to replace them? Well, how about these delightful possibilities:

Cath Kidston now offers a slightly girly, but very cool Cowboy Tepee for just £75.

But our favourite is definitely this amazing full-size replica of the iconic 1965 VW Camper Van, available in four colours, for £299. It is such a great replica that the product information clearly states: please note, this is not an actual Camper Van.

There will be a prize for the person who brings one of these to Camp this year – fact!!

Important Documents

July 5th, 2011

Camp FormThis week you will all receive a copy of the Camp Booklet, a Medical Consent Form and a Letter for your Parents. It is really important that you read your booklet, but even more important that your Parents read the letter and complete and return the Consent Form by the deadline.

All documents can be found on the Latest Information page

Important Information

June 30th, 2011

At the Pool Party this weekend we’ll be distributing some important items:

Camp Booklet: this provides everything you need to know about your stay at Camp, including whose table you’ll be on, which tent you’re in and which day is your duty day. Please read through this booklet with your parents as it will put their mind at ease about what we get up to at Camp and how it all works.

Camp Polo Shirt: this is part of the Uniform, and must be worn on the coach trip too and from Camp, and to Church on Sunday. The rest of the Uniform consists of black/navy shorts (or skirts for girls). We don’t wear our Uniform at any other time during Camp otherwise it gets grubby and smelly!

Letter to Parents: the letter for your parents contains all the important information they need about Camp including how you’ll be getting there (by coach), what time to drop you off and where, what time to expect you home, and the address and emergency contact details for whilst we’re away. The letter will be available online too.

Consent Form: it is absolutely vital that your completed & signed consent form is returned to your Company Officer/Staff Member by Friday 8th July. This ensures that the First Aid Team can review and organise the forms before we go. If you fail to return your Consent Form on time you will not be able to join us at Camp. Once you’ve returned your Consent Form, if you come into contact with any infectious disease you must let us know.

Please note that the dates on the Consent Form include the Advance Party and Rearguard dates (setting up and taking down the Camp) – don’t worry, you’re still only going for 10 days.

[ID Cards will be handed out on the Coach to Campers, and on the Advance Party for Staff.]

We’ll upload the Booklet, Letter to Parents & Consent Form in the next few days. We’ve tried to includeall the information you need, but if you still have questions feel free to get in touch.

Don’t forget, if you aren’t currently on the MK Camp Email List you can join by simply sending an email to mkcamp-subscribe@googlegroups.com and we’ll ensure you’re kept informed of updates to this site and any other important information regarding Camp. Alternatively, why not ‘like’ our Facebook page or ‘follow’ us on Twitter!
